LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Transylvania University pulled out a 20-0 victory over Hanover College in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon. The top seeded Pioneers (15-4) claimed the school's second conference tournament title and earn a trip to the NCAA Division III women's lacrosse tournament with the win.
Leading the way for Transylvania was Courtney Pontious, who tallied eight points on seven goals and an assist, and collected a career-high 12 draw controls. Also contributing to the Pioneers' attack were Brianna McCulley, who recorded four goals and an assist, and Salem Carlow, who scored three goals and notched two assists in the victory
Goalkeepers Mackenzie Dent and Hayle Hall combined for four saves and zero goals allowed in 60 minutes of action at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
As a team, the Pios recorded 18 draw controls and 47 shots compared to Hanover's five shots in the championship game.
Transylvania will learn their first opponent in the NCAA tournament on Sunday, May 5 at 9:30p.m. The tournament's first/second rounds are scheduled for May 11-12.
