GREENWOOD, IN - Bluffton University (2-1, 0-0 HCAC) earned a 17 point win at Kalamazoo last Wednesday, beating the hosts 74-57. The Beavers have won their last two contests heading into tonight's contest with Wooster.
The Beavers trailed 32-27 at the half, but outscored the Hornets 47-25 in the second frame to earn the road win.
Sophomore forward Brooke Ruffer (Stryker, Ohio/H.S.) led the scoring with 14 points, on 7-of-9 shooting, off the bench. The sophomore also added four rebounds and a block during the win.
The Beavers will travel to Wooster for a 7:30 PM tipoff tonight and will return home for Heidelberg Saturday afternoon.
In other action...
Defiance College had a busy week, finishing 1-2 overall. The Jackets (1-2, 0-0 HCAC) beat Alma on the road and dropped a pair of contests to Baldwin Wallace and Ohio Wesleyan at the BWC Invitational over the weekend.
Freshman center Kelsey Tietje (Deshler, Ohio/Patrick Henry) recorded three-straight double-doubles during the week, posting a double-double of at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in each contest.
In the season opening 78-65 win over Alma, Tietje scored 24 points with 11 rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Despite losing a pair of contests at Baldwin Wallace, the freshman earned a spot on the All-Tournament team after scoring 25 points with 10 boards against BWC and 23 points with 10 rebounds in a loss to Ohio Wesleyan.
Defiance will travel to St. Mary's (IN) for a 3:00 PM tip Saturday.
