LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fresh off their NCAA regional victory last weekend, the Transylvania softball team has been selected to host this upcoming weekend's NCAA Tournament super regional at Hall Field in Lexington.
The Pioneers (33-11, Mount Berry regional champions) will host the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans (34-12, Alma regional champions) beginning Friday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m. in a best-of-three format super regional.
Transylvania is hosting its first super regional in program history after winning its first-ever regional by sweeping through the winner's bracket in three games, defeating No. 2 nationally-ranked Berry in back-to-back shutouts.
Illinois Wesleyan is making its fourth trip in program history to a regional, and its second-consecutive trip. The Titans advanced to the round of 16 by defeating regional host Alma College twice, completing their run through regionals with a 4-1 victory on Sunday.
Transylvania will host the super regional, scheduled to run Friday May 19 through Saturday at May 20, at newly-renovated Hall Field. The home for Pioneers softball since 1996, Hall Field will play host to just the seventh and eighth games played there since the field re-opened last month after a year-long renovation process.
Friday's game one is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start, with game two's first pitch scheduled Saturday at 12:00 p.m. If the Pioneers and Titans split the first two games, an if-necessary game will follow game two at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
The winner of the Lexington super regional will advance to the NCAA Division III Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, beginning Thursday, May 25.
Tickets for each day of the super regional are $10 for adults, $6 for students with ID, $8 for senior citizens, and $6 for children (children age two and under are admitted for free).
