Softball Report (Week 4) - Rose-Hulman Sweeps Defiance in HCAC Opener

GREENWOOD, IN- Rose-Hulman kicked off the conference schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Defiance Saturday.  The Engineers (5-3, 2-0 HCAC) won the first contest 7-3 and finished the series with an 8-6 win over the Jackets (3-6, 0-2 HCAC).

Senior Jenna Martinek (Troy, Mo./Buchanan) finished 5-for-8 (.625) at the plate with three doubles, four runs scored, and one RBI during the doubleheader.

In the circle, junior Carly Heibel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Lakewood Park Christian) earned the win in relief in both contests.  Heibel allowed seven hits and one run with four strikeouts in 8.1 innings, tallying a 2-0 mark with a 0.84 ERA.

Rose-Hulman will face Adrian at home Thursday before heading to Hanover for a doubleheader Saturday.  The Engineers busy week will conclude at home Sunday against Denison.

In other HCAC action...

Bluffton and Transylvania split a HCAC doubleheader on Saturday.  The Beavers (10-6, 1-1 HCAC) and Pioneers (7-13, 1-1 HCAC) played a pair of contests with BU claiming game 1 (7-4) and Transy winning the second contest (8-6).
