GREENWOOD, IN - Manchester University earned a sweep in its HCAC opening series thanks to a perfect game in the circle and finished the week 5-1 overall. The Spartans (10-6, 2-0 HCAC) split with Grace (IN) and earned sweeps of Albion and Mount St. Joseph during the span.
Sophomore Maureen Lund (Huntington, Ind./North) fired a five-inning perfect game in an 8-0 win over Mount St. Joseph Saturday. Lund finished the week 2-1 with six hits allowed, one earned run, and 12 strikeouts in 17.0 innings of work to lead the Spartans pitching staff.
Freshman Kaile Niezgodski (South Bend, Ind./Clay) led the Spartans at the plate during the six games, finishing the week 8-for-12 (.667) with one double, two home runs, six runs scored, six RBI, five walks, and three stolen bases.
Manchester is set to face Anderson this afternoon before traveling to Franklin and Hanover over the weekend.
In other action...
Bluffton (11-11, 3-1 HCAC) swept Rose-Hulman (5-13, 1-3 HCAC)) in Terre Haute Saturday afternoon. The Beavers snapped a four game losing streak in the process, beating the host Engineers 9-2 and 9-5.
Sophomore Jessica Kuzara (Flat Rock, Mich./Huron) led the Beavers in the sweep, going 3-for-7 at the plate with two home runs, three runs scored, and four RBI.
