Rose-Hulman Wins School's Fourth HCAC Men's Cross Country Championship

RESULTS

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. --- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's men's cross country team captured the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship Saturday afternoon. The Fightin' Engineers claimed six of the top 15 individual places en route to posting a score of 45 at the meet held at Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville, Indiana.

Hanover senior Jacob Hedrick Henryville, Ind.) won the individual title and led the Panthers with a first place finish at the meet Saturday. The senior covered the 8K course in 25:59.0 and was named the HCAC Most Valuable Runner for his performance.

Hedrick earned a spot on the All-HCAC team which is awarded to the top 12 finishers. Also on the All-HCAC team was: Anderson's Ian Leathernman & Jona Odell, Franklin's Clayton Brumfield & Blaine Conners, Hanover's Hayden Veach, Manchester's Lucas Fontanez, Daniel Baker, and Samuel Barnard, and Rose-Hulman's Matthew Stevenot, Evan Ammidown and Ben Gothard.

Austin Burt (Warrensburg, Mo.) of Earlham was named the HCAC Freshman of the Year. He was the top finishing freshman at the meet placing 17th overall with a time of 27:18.8.

Finishing in second place in the team standings was Hanover with a score of 86. Manchester placed third with a score of 91 and was followed by Earlham (105) in fourth position. Franklin (117), Bluffton (162), Anderson (165), Transylvania (197), Mount St. Joseph (219), and Defiance (298) rounded out the team standings. 

Rose-Hulman head coach Geoff Wayton was named HCAC Coach of the Year for his efforts in leading the Engineers to the conference title.
