Manchester Wins HCAC Men's Cross Country Championship

HANOVER, Ind. – Manchester University's men's cross country team captured the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship Saturday afternoon after defeating Rose-Hulman in a tiebreaker. The Spartans claimed three of the top 10 individual places en route to posting a score of 59 at the meet held at Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana.

Manchester senior Connor Bresnahan won the individual title and led the Spartans with a first place finish at the meet Saturday. The sesnior covered the 8K course in 26:10.8 and was named the HCAC Most Valuable Runner for his performance.

Bresnahan earned a spot on the All-HCAC team which is awarded to the top 12 finishers. Also on the All-HCAC team was: Anderson's Jona Odell, Bluffton's Kris Lyons and Jack Fisher, Earlham's Gabriel Penk, Franklin's Clayton Brumfield, Hanover's Jacob Hedrick and Hayden Veach, Manchester's Alex Gudeman and Blake Harris, and Rose-Hulman's Alton Anspaugh and Matt Hill.

Clayton Brumfield of Franklin was named the HCAC Freshman of the Year. He was the top finishing freshman at the meet placing 8th overall with a time of 27:20.52.

Finishing in second place in the team standings was Rose-Hulman with a score of 59. Hanover placed third with a score of 68 and was followed by Bluffton (84) in fourth position. Anderson (122), Earlham (159), Franklin (167), Transylvania (231), Mount St. Joseph (282), and Defiance (301) rounded out the team standings. 

Manchester head coach Geoff Lambert was named HCAC Coach of the Year for his efforts in leading the Spartans to the conference title.
