RHIT Selected by Coaches to Repeat as HCAC Men’s Cross Country Champs

GREENWOOD, IN – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s men’s cross country team has been selected as the front runner to win the 2015 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship. In a poll of the ten HCAC head coaches, the Engineers received 100 total points and all 10 first place votes.

Manchester University will strive for its sixth title, as the Spartans totaled 90 points.  Hanover College placed third in the poll with 77 points, while Franklin College finished fourth with 68 points.  Anderson University finished fifth with 59 points and was followed by Bluffton University (58 points), Defiance College (37), Earlham College (31), Transylvania University (16), and Mount St. Joseph University (16).

Rose-Hulman won the school’s first ever HCAC cross country championship last fall and  returns five runners that earned first-team All-HCAC honors.  Senior Kevin Mauser (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) placed second overall at the conference meet last fall, finishing seven seconds behind champion Jack Fisher of Bluffton.  The Engineers other four first-team All-HCAC finishers placed third, fourth, fifth, and eighth overall last fall.  The returning runners will strive to pace Rose to second-straight cross country HCAC title at t he end of October.

Manchester saw its run of five-straight HCAC titles end with a second place finish a year ago.  The Spartans return one first-team All-HCAC and three honorable mention selections from last season.  Junior Alex Gudeman (Rochester, Ind./H.S.) earned a 12th place finish and was the lone Spartan to claim first-team All-HCAC accolades.

Hanover College placed third at last year’s meet after a fourth place finish in 2013.  The Panthers return one first-team All-HCAC member from last year’s third place team. Sophomore Joe Rector (Aurora, Ind./South Dearborn) placed ninth at the 2014 meet, leading all Panthers at the event.

The 2015 HCAC Men’s Cross Country Championship will be hosted by Franklin College on Saturday, October 31.

The 2015 men’s cross country season is set to begin on September 1.
