GREENWOOD, Ind. - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology led the four team HCAC field at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational last weekend, placing first in the meet with 269.0 points.
Rose-Hulman's Josh Hennig (Springfield, Ill. / Lutheran) helped the Fightin' Engineers performance in the Invitational on Saturday.
The senior placed first in the 400-meter dash and anchored the winning 4-x-400 and 4-x-100 relay teams. Hennig's times rank No. 6 nationally in the 400 (49.20) and No. 20 in the 4-x-100 (43.52). Junior Eric Fiacable (Crown Point, Ind. / Crown Point) also led Rose-Hulman with a winning toss of 169' 2" in the hammer throw that ranks No. 9 in NCAA Division III.
Hanover College placed fourth as a team at the Early Bird Invitational with 64 total points. The Panthers were led by junior Jacob Hedrick (Memphis, Ind. / Henryville) who broke a 35-year-old school record in the 5,000 meter run (15:04.05) for the ninth fastest time in NCAA Division III this season.
Franklin College placed sixth (34 points) as a team, and the Grizzlies were followed by Defiance College in eighth (31.50 points) out of the field of ten.
Bluffton University and Earlham College traveled to Lexington, Va. last weekend to participate in the Washington & Lee Carnival.
Bluffton Beavers freshman Gabe Makin (Elida, Ohio / Elida) won the pole vault at the Washington and Lee Carnival last weekend. Makin cleared 4.70 meters which currently ranks second in NCAA Division III. Sophomore Dakota Frost (Edgerton, Ohio / Hicksville) placed fifth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 32:25.38 for the Beavers.
At the Carnival, the Quakers were led by freshman Nate Papachristos (North Plainfield, N.J. / Union Catholic) who finished fourth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:09.49 and ninth in the 800 (1:59.60).
