Rose-Hulman Selected to Win HCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Title

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman men's track and field team has been selected as the unanimous front runner to win the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor championship. In a poll of the ten HCAC head coaches, the Engineers received 100 total points and all ten first place votes.

Anderson University will strive for its first title since 2007, as the Ravens totaled a second-best 87 points.  Hanover College placed third in the poll with 80 points and Manchester University finished fourth with 73 points.  Bluffton University finished fifth with 56 points and was followed by Defiance College (49 points), Franklin College (38), Earlham College (37), Transylvania University (19), and Mount St. Joseph University (10).

Rose-Hulman has claimed the last 10 HCAC outdoor championships and earned an eighth-straight indoor crown this past February. The Engineers once again have a deep roster ready to make a run at another outdoor title. Rose-Hulman returns multiple 1st-Team All-HCAC selections from last year's outdoor track and field championships. Leading the way for the Fightin' Engineers is senior Josh Himes (McCordsville, Ind. / Heritage Christian) who is the reigning HCAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year. Himes placed first in the shot put and discus throw at last year's championships.

Anderson earned a second place finish at last year's outdoor championship meet and will try for their first conference track and field title since 2007 this spring.  The Ravens return senior Garrett Cooley (Indianapolis, Ind. / North Central) who placed first in the long jump and high jump at last spring's championship. Anderson's roster also includes freshman Toluwani Adebakin (Lagos, / Nigeria) who claimed HCAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in February for his efforts.

Hanover finished fourth at last spring's HCAC outdoor meet and placed third at the indoor championships in February. The Panthers return two 2nd-Team All-HCAC selections from last year's squad with sophomore Hayden Veach (Shelbyville, Ind. / Southwestern) and senior Joe Rector (Aurora, Ind. / South Dearborn).

The 2018 HCAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set for Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28.  The event will be hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

The 2018 men's outdoor track and field season gets underway this weekend.
