Transy’s Cole Green & Anderson’s Garrett Cooley Named HCAC Men’s Track & Field Athletes of the Year

GREENWOOD, IN – Transylvania University's Cole Green (Oak Ridge, Tenn./H.S.) and Anderson University's Garrett Cooley (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) have been named 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year, respectively.  

Green, a junior for the Pioneers, won the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash at the 2016 HCAC Championships.  The junior totaled 21 points on the track to lead the Pios. 

Cooley, a junior for the Ravens, won two field events and finished second behind Green twice on the track at the championship.  The junior won the long jump with a mark of 7.07 meters and the high jump with a winning leap of 1.91 meters. Cooley finished second in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

Rose-Hulman's Trey Sykes (Houston, Texas/Bay Area Christian) was awarded the HCAC Freshman of the Year for his efforts at the championship meet.  Sykes won the triple jump with a winning leap of 13.81 meters and finished second behind Cooley in the long jump (6.10 meters).

Rose-Hulman's Larry Cole was named the HCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Engineers to the school's ninth-straight HCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field team title. Cole, in his 13th season as Rose-Hulman's head coach, saw his squad garner a record 350.33 points to win the championship.
