
GREENWOOD, IN – Transylvania University’s Cole Green (Oak Ridge, Tenn./H.S.) and Anderson University’s Garrett Cooley (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) have been named 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year, respectively. Green led the Pioneers to a seventh place finish at the meet, while Cooley led the Ravens to a second place finish on February 20.
Green, a junior for the Pioneers, won two individual events at the 2016 HCAC Indoor Championships. The junior claimed the individual titles in the 60-meter dash (6.92) and 200-meter dash (22.37).
Cooley, a junior for the Ravens, won two field events at the championship. He had a winning mark of 1.91 meters in the high jump and claimed the title in the long jump with a leap of 6.70 meters.
Also receiving recognition for his efforts at the meet is Rose-Hulman freshman David Borden (Mason, Ohio/H.S.), receiving the 2016 HCAC Indoor Track & Field Freshman Athlete of the Year. Borden was a member of the winning 800-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams for the Engineers. The winning time in the 800-meter relay set a new HCAC record with a winning time of 1:30.60. The freshman also finished third in the 400-meters at the meet.
Rose-Hulman’s Larry Cole was named the HCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Engineers to their sixth straight HCAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field team title. Cole, in his 13th season as Rose-Hulman’s head coach, saw his squad garner 286.83 points to win the championship.
