GREENWOOD, IN - Franklin College led the HCAC field at the 1st annual Indiana Division III Championships at Franklin on Saturday. The Grizzlies placed second behind Wabash at the event as senior Georard Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe Academy) earned four individual titles.
On the track, Mitchell earned two individual and one relay title at the meet. The senior won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes with times of 10.84 and 22.13 seconds. Mitchell was also a member of the winning 4-x-100-meter relay team (43.25 seconds).
In the field, Mitchell continued his career day with two more victories. The senior earned the long jump title with a leap of 7.17 meters and added another title in the triple jump with a winning mark of 14.03 meters.
Manchester placed third at the meet and was followed by Rose-Hulman (4th), Anderson (5th), Hanover (6th), and Earlham (8th) in the team standings.
Bluffton, Defiance, and Mount St. Joseph were in action at the All-Ohio Outdoor Invitational Saturday. The Jackets placed 8th among the 20 competing schools, while Mount St. Joseph finished 12th and Bluffton 19th at the meet.
Defiance sophomore Troy Parrett (Cedarville, Ohio/H.S.) won the 800-meter run with a first-place time of 1:53.87, finishing two seconds faster than any other competitor. The second-year runner moved himself to 20th in the rankings for all of NCAA Division III with the mark.
Senior Tom Postema (Defiance, Ohio/Tinora) earned three top-five finishes Saturday. The senior thrower finished first in the hammer throw with an All-Ohio record mark of 62.14 meters, second in the discus at 48.99 meters, and fifth in the shot put.
The Yellow Jackets are currently the only HCAC school ranked in the Great Lakes Regional poll released by USTFCCCA, standing eighth in the region.
This weekend's schedule will be the final tune up before the HCAC Outdoor Championships at Manchester University on April 26-27.
