GREENWOOD, IN - The Defiance College men's outdoor track and field team placed second among 10 schools at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational Friday evening. The Jackets led four league schools at the meet, finishing behind Notre Dame (OH) in the team standings.
The Jackets scored 104 points at the meet and was led by the efforts of senior Tom Postema (Defiance, Ohio/Tinora).
Postema dominated with first place finishes in the hammer throw, shot put, and discus. The senior tossed the national-leading mark in the hammer throw with a heave of 62.19 meters. The Defiance native's marks in the discus (53.30 meters) and shot put (15.70 meters) rank third and seventh in NCAA Division III.
Mount St. Joseph, Hanover and Transylvania also competed in Cincinnati Friday. The Lions earned a fourth place finish, while the Panthers and Pioneers placed fifth and 10th overall.
In the latest USTFCCCA men's outdoor Top 25 poll, Defiance appears at No. 25 in the nation.
Rose-Hulman and Franklin competed in Terre Haute at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Meet.
RHIT junior Andrew Thompson (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills) led the Engineers to a win at the meet with victories in the 1,500-meters (4:03.31) and the 5,000-meters (15:36.65).
This weekend all 10 HCAC schools will be in action on the track.
