Men's Indoor T&F Report (Week 2) - Defiance Places Third at DC Invite; Enters Top 25

GREENWOOD, IN - Defiance College finished the weekend with a third place finish at the Defiance Invitational Saturday.  The Jackets finished behind Case Western and Wittenberg in the team standings.

For the first time in Coach John Hartpence’s tenure, the Defiance men’s track and field squad has been voted into the top-25 of the U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Division III poll.

This past weekend’s performance by the Yellow Jackets at the DC Alumni Invitational bumped the squad five spots up in the rankings to No. 25. It was the biggest jump of any team in the polls for the week.

DC’s Tom Postema (Defiance, Ohio/Tinora) blew away the competition Saturday, placing first in the shot put and weight throw with tosses of 15.63 meters and 20.29 meters respectively. His distance in the weight throw currently ranks first in NCAA Division III and is the 12th best throw in all NCAA divisions.

Anderson, Earlham, and Transylvania also competed at Defiance Saturday, placing fifth, seventh, and eighth in the team standings.

Rose-Hulman wecolmed nine schools for the Rose-Hulman Invitational Saturday.  The host Engineers placed second in the standings, while Mount St. Joseph placed eighth.

Rose-Hulman stands No. 7 nationally in this week's NCAA Division III Track and Field Team Dual Meet Rankings.

The USTFCCA uses a criteria that evaluates the top two performances in each event that is conducted at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Indoor National Championships and assigns a numerical value based upon the quality of the mark to determine the dual meet rankings.

Bluffton was also in action over the weekend, but did not post a team score at the Findlay Invitational.

This weekend's schedule showcases all 10 HCAC institutions.  Bluffton, Defiance, and Rose-Hulman will compete at Ohio Northern, while Anderson will host Earlham, Hanover, Manchester, Mount St. Joseph, and Transylvania Saturday.  Franklin will also be in action Friday at DePauw.
