Defiance’s Tom Postema Named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Defiance College senior thrower, Tom Postema (Defiance, Ohio/Tinora), has been named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III Male Athlete of the Week one day after earning the same honor for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Postema had a career-day at the Defiance Alumni Invitational on Saturday, January 26, winning the shot put and weight throw competitions, with his throw of 20.29 meters in the weight throw being a full 20 feet better than the second-place result. The Defiance, Ohio, native set new Defiance College and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference records with his indoor weight throw performance and the throw was the third-best mark in NCAA Division III history.

Along with becoming the Division III leader in the weight throw this season, Postema climbed to 12th in the nation among all divisions and earned an invite to the Elite Weight Throw Competition at the Findlay Open on Friday, February 1. Postema will be joined at the event by A.G. Kruger, the defending national champion for USA Track and Field in the weight throw.
