CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) men's 2020 tennis season kicked off in week one.

Athlete of the Week:

Lennart Harms (Jever, Germany) Earlham College | Freshman - Harms posted a pair of singles victories and contributed to one doubles win as Earlham men's tennis opened its spring slate with a 1-1 record. Harms notched a 4-6, 6-4, 4-0 (inj.) win over Kalamazoo at No. 1 singles for the Quakers' only win in an 8-1 loss to the Hornets on Saturday in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Kalamazoo is currently ranked No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA Division III Central Region rankings. Later on Saturday, Harms recorded wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as Earlham posted a 9-0 victory over Wabash College. He teamed up with Dan Garcia to record an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles over the Wabash tandem, before posting a straight-set win, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.

Notable Performances:

  • Ian Landwehr (Daleville, Ind.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology – Landwehr picked up a straight set win against No. 12 ranked Case Western Reserve at No. 1 singles by a 6-2, 6-4 margin. He then battled and narrowly fell 6-4, 7-6 to the No. 1 player on NCAA Division II Ferris State in a pair of Saturday matches. The duo of Landwehr and Austin Perry fell 8-4 and 6-4 to Case Western and Ferris State, respectively.
  • Noah McNamee (Belfry, Ky.) Transylvania University | Sophomore - McNamee provided the Pioneers with their loan victory of the day in an 8-1 loss to the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops in Transylvania's opening match of the 2020 spring season. McNamee captured a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 2 singles matchup. Additionally, the sophomore teamed with brother Nick McNamee in an 8-6 loss in No. 1 doubles action.
