GREENWOOD, IN - The Defiance College men's tennis team picked up a statement victory Friday evening and opened up HCAC play with a 6-3 victory over Franklin College.
For just the third time since the men's tennis program was re-introduced at Defiance, the Yellow Jackets were victorious in a match with Franklin.
Cord Speelman (Bryan, Ohio/H.S.), Ryan Nelson (Oregon, Ohio/Clay), and Justin Walker (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Hunt) each went 2-0 during the match to lead DC. Speelman earned wins at No. 2 singles and doubles, Nelson posted victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles, and Walker tabbed wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 5 singles.
Defiance (3-2, 1-0 HCAC) will return to action on March 20 at home against Adrian.
In other action...
Earlham College (2-2, 0-0 HCAC) earned a 7-2 win over Capital in Dayton, Ohio. Sophomore Jack Ventura-Cruess (Placentia, Calif./El Dorado) posted a pair of victories in the win. Ventura-Cruess teamed with Anton Bartashevich for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles and posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 singles position.
