GREENWOOD, IN - The Manchester University men's soccer team finished off a comeback win over Andrews in the season opener Monday. The Spartans (1-0, 0-0 HCAC) claimed a 3-2 home win in overtime to kick off the 2014 season.
Freshman forward Nate Johnson (Portage, Ind./H.S.) led the Spartans comeback. The freshman netted two goals, including the game-winner in overtime. Johnson's two-goal effort was the first multi-goal performance for a Manchester player since October of 2012.
Manchester will host Blackburn and Westminster (PA) over the weekend.
In other action...
Rose-Hulman opened the season with a 1-0-1 mark during the first weekend of play. The Engineers (1-0-1, 0-0 HCAC) tied Alma 0-0 and blanked Kalamazoo 2-0 in Terre Haute.
Senior goalkeeper Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) recorded two shutouts to anchor a defensive effort that did not allow a goal during the two contests. Miller had 12 saves against Kalamazoo and added three saves in a scoreless draw vs. Alma.
