GREENWOOD, IN – The Earlham men’s soccer program earned their first HCAC Championship and secured the top seed for the conference tournament. The top-seed Quakers will tangle with No. 4 Transylvania in one semifinal, while second seeded Rose-Hulman will host No. 3 Hanover in the other semifinal.
Earlham earned the conference title with a 1-0 victory over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Jacob Ebbs (Brookline, Mass./H.S.) scored the game’s only goal in the victory. The Quakers finished the regular season with an 11-8 overall record and a 7-2 mark in conference play.
Rose-Hulman finished one point behind the Quakers in the league standings with a 6-1-2 league record. The Engineers fell to Earlham 1-0 last Wednesday, which would have given the league title to the Engineers.
Earlham will face Transylvania at 2:00 PM Tuesday afternoon in the semifinals. The Quakers pulled out a 3-1 win over the Pioneers back on October 22. Ebbs scored the game-winning goal, finding the back of the net in the 40th minute of play. Transylvania finished the season 12-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in conference action.
Rose-Hulman (9-5-4, 6-1-2 HCAC) and Hanover (10-7-2, 6-2-1 HCAC) will meet in Terre Haute for the second men’s semifinal. The Engineers and Panthers tied 0-0 when the two squads met on October 26. The contest will get underway at 7:00 PM Tuesday.
The winner of the conference tournament will earn the conference’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III tournament that is slated to begin on November 15. The highest remaining seed after the two semi-finals will host the conference tournament final at 1:00 PM Saturday.
