Men's Soccer Report (Week 9) - RHIT Takes Over HCAC Lead with Week to Play

GREENWOOD, IN - The Rose-Hulman men's soccer team took over the lead in the race for an HCAC title, finishing the week 1-0-1.  The Engineers (8-4-4, 5-0-2 HCAC) hold a one point lead over Hanover with two matches remaining.

Rose-Hulman's Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) did not allow a goal in two shutouts last week. The junior goalkeeper played 182 minutes in net without allowing a goal, stopping two shots in a 3-0 win over Franklin and five shots in a 0-0 draw with Hanover.

Rose-Hulman can win the league crown with wins over Earlham and Manchester this week.

In other action...

Hanover College (9-6-2, 5-1-1 HCAC) lost its grip on the top spot following a 1-0 defeat to Mount St. Joseph Wednesday.  The Panthers rebounded from the loss to earn a 0-0 tie at Rose-Hulman Saturday.  The Panthers can clinch a spot in next week's HCAC tournament with a win over Franklin or Defiance.

Earlham College (9-8, 5-2 HCAC) sits two points behind Rose in the race for a league crown.  The Quakers split a pair of matches last week, defeating Transylvania 3-1 while falling at Anderson 4-1.  EC will close the season against Rose-Hulman and Mount St. Joseph.  A pair of wins will lock up a tourney spot.

Transylvania (10-4-2, 4-2-1 HCAC) now stands four points out of the conference lead after going 1-1 last week.  The Pioneers lost at Earlham 3-1 and pulled out a narrow 1-0 win at Defiance.  Transy will look for wins over Mount St. Joseph and Bluffton to earn a spot in the tournament.

Anderson (8-9, 4-3 HCAC) has won four straight matches to play itself into the tournament picture.  The Ravens beat Defiance 2-1 and Earlham 4-1 last week and can put itself in good position to make the field with road wins over Manchester and Franklin.

Defiance (8-9, 3-4 HCAC) remains alive in the conference tournament race.  The Jackets lost a pair of matches to Anderson and Transylvania last week and sits four points out of the fourth and final spot with two matches remaining.  DC will need wins at Bluffton and at Hanover to possibly make the field.
