Transylvania Claims 13th-Straight HCAC Men’s Golf Championship

FINAL RESULTS

ANDERSON, Ind, --- Transylvania University's Blake Young fired a three-round score of 215 at the 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Conference Championship to lead the Pioneers to their 13th-straight HCAC Men's Golf title. Transylvania tallied a team-score of 882 holding off second place Earlham College's total of 919. 

Young shot a final-round 70 and fired rounds of 73 and 71 in the first two rounds to earn medalist and Tournament MVP honors.

The Pioneers had three other top-eight finishers at the meet, placing Jack Berger in second position (216), Zach Treilobs in sixth place (225), and Spencer McKinney in ninth on the player leaderboard (228).

The four Pioneers all earned All-HCAC recognition. Joining the group on the All-HCAC team are Earlhams's Garrett Schuler and Graham Sherard, Defiance's Federico Gutierrez, Mount St. Joseph's Ethan McCarthy, Franklin's Jackson Williams and Hanover's Austin Zapp, Charlie Bullerdick and Luke Van Leeuwen.

Defiance's Federico Gutierrez also earned the conference's Freshman of the Year honor. Gutierrez finished with a total of 224, finishing in a tie for fourth place.

Earlham finished second behind the Pioneers with a team score of 919. Hanover placed third with a total of 920, while Franklin finished fourth in the team standings with a total of 936. Mount St. Joseph tallied 944 team strokes for fifth place and was trailed by Defiance (949), Rose-Hulman (975), Bluffton (1,042), Anderson (1,049) and Manchester (1,142).

Transylvania head coach Brian Lane was also honored by the HCAC and named Coach of the Year. Lane earned the honor for the 13th time after leading the Pioneers to their 13th-straight HCAC men's golf championship.
