Football Report (Week 8) - Mount Seizes Control of Football Race with 26-16 Win at Franklin

FRANKLIN, IN - The College of Mount St. Joseph (7-0, 5-0 HCAC) moved one step closer to the HCAC football crown with a 26-16 win at Franklin College (5-2, 3-1 HCAC).  The Lions snapped Franklin's 21-game conference win streak and moved one victory away from securing a spot in the Division III football playoffs.

The Mount jumped out early, leading 17-0 at the break.  Quarterback Craig Mustard (Mason, Ohio/H.S.) accounted for both of the team's first half touchdowns, scoring on a one-yard touchdown run and tossing a 35 yard scoring strike.  Mustard finished the day 20 of 30 for 177 yards and a touchdown.

Franklin had the ball for six drives in the first half and produced only 54 yards of total offense.  The Grizzlies finished the day with 308 yards of offense and turned the ball over five times in the loss.

MSJ utilized a balanced attack offensively, rushing for 222 yards and adding 190 through the air.  The Mount offense dominated the time of possession in the win, holding the ball for just over 44 minutes.

Noah Joseph (Roswell, Ga./Blessed Trinity) and Jake Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led the rushing game for the second straight week.  Joseph rushed for 119 yards on 23 carries, while Davis added 83 yards on 24 carries.

Defensively Mount St. Joseph limited the Grizzlies to 23 yards rushing, had two interceptions, and three fumble recoveries.

Mount will look to secure a share of the conference title and the HCAC's automatic bid into the Division III playoffs with a win at Manchester Saturday, while Franklin will try and bounce back at Rose-Hulman.
