FRANKLIN, IN - Franklin College (5-1, 3-0 HCAC) remained a half game behind Mount St. Joseph in the league standings with a 50-23 win at home over Anderson (0-6, 0-3 HCAC).
The No. 22 Grizzlies trailed the Ravens 17-10 late in the first half before sophomore quarterback Nathan Ellis (Plainfield, Ind./H.S.) connected with Adam Mellencamp (Freetown, Ind./Brownstown Central) for an eight yard touchdown with 11 seconds to play before halftime.
The blue and gold rode the momentum into the second half as Franklin outscored the Ravens 20-6 in the third quarter. Ellis tossed three touchdowns in the third quarter alone to break the game wide open for Franklin. Ellis finished 13 of 16 for 176 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
Mellencamp led all Franklin receivers with 126 yards and two touchdowns on nine receptions.
The Grizzlies totaled 589 yards of total offense against the Raven defense, including 187 on the ground. Junior tailback Mitch Downs (Rockville, Ind./H.S.) led the ground game with 90 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.
Anderson's offense was led by sophomore receiver Joe Davidson (Brookville, Ind./Franklin Co.). Davidson caught four passes for 85 yards, including the Ravens first touchdown of the game.
Franklin will look for its 22nd straight conference win as Mount St. Joseph comes to Faught Stadium next Saturday. Anderson will try and find the win column for the first time this season Saturday evening against Defiance.
