Four HCAC Student-Athletes Named to All-Region Teams

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Four Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball student-athletes have been named to the 2019 All-Mideast Region teams.

Joe Moran, Anderson

Moran was named to the all-region team as a utility player due to his efforts at the plate and on the mound. He went 46-for-127 on the season with a team-high .362 batting average. Moran also led the team in home runs (5) and on-base percentage (.478). Among HCAC leaders, Moran ranks fourth in stolen bases (20) and is tied for fifth in homers. Moran also drove in 25 runs and provided a .535 slugging percentage.
On the mound, Moran went 7-1 with a 3.20 ERA. Moran tied for first in the conference in wins. He struck out 66 batters, issued 28 walks and gave up 26 runs (21 earned) on 48 hits in 59 innings. Moran ranked third in the conference in strikeouts. He allowed a 1.29 WHIP and a .223 opponent batting average.

Sam Claycamp, Franklin

Claycamp earns his first career all-region nod, earning the shortstop spot on the Mideast Region Second Team. Bixler becomes a two-time All-Mideast Region selection, picking up Third Team accolades.

Claycamp enjoyed a career year on the diamond, leading the Grizzlies with a .400 batting average, 68 hits and 17 doubles while belting four home runs and driving in 48 runs. His .495 on-base percentage ranked second on the team and his 47 runs scored positioned him third on the roster.

The Columbus, Ind.-native adds this accolade to an impressive personal trophy case. In 2019 alone, he has been named First Team All-HCAC, HCAC Tournament MVP and earned a spot on the NCAA Seguin Regional All-Tournament Team after helping Franklin reach the regional final for the first time in program history.

Ryan Bixler, Franklin

Bixler's second season with the Grizzlies was another successful one, as be batted .307 with team-highs in home runs (10) and RBI (55) to go along with 13 doubles and 52 runs scored. The Logansport, Ind.-native set a new single-season program record with six triples and stole 13 bases while slugging .619 on the year.

A 2018 First Team All-Region selection from D3Baseball, Bixler adds this award to a list of 2019 accomplishments that includes a First Team All-HCAC selection, one HCAC Player of the Week award and a spot alongside Claycamp on the NCAA Seguin Regional All-Tournament Team.

Luke Buehler, Rose-Hulman

Buehler was named second-team in the All-Region Team. The junior compiled a 7-1 record and an HCAC leading 1.88 earned run average this season.  He was also the ace of a staff that led the HCAC in earned run average. 

He finished with an ERA under 2.00 for the second consecutive seasons, highlighted by 57 strikeouts in 62.1 innings of work.  In one stretch of HCAC action, he allowed just 1 run in 22.2 innings of work to earn wins over Transylvania, Defiance and Bluffton. The junior left-hander earned first-team all-HCAC honors for the second consecutive year and ranks third in Rose-Hulman history with a 2.31 ERA
