Franklin's Ryan Bixler Named HCAC Baseball Most Valuable Player

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Franklin College's Ryan Bixler (Logansport, Ind. / Lewis Cass) has been named the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player in baseball.  The All-HCAC squad is selected by a vote of the ten conference head coaches. The sophomore outfielder guided the Grizzlies to a 38-3 overall record, and the HCAC regular season and tournament title this spring.

Bixler hit .400 (28-for-70) in conference play and had 29 runs, 31 RBI, five doubles, one triple, and seven home runs.  The sophomore had a .800 slugging percentage and a .552 on-base percentage during league contests. 

Anderson's John Becker (Urbana, Ill. / Carlyle) has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year. Becker, a senior pitcher for the Ravens, finished the HCAC season with a 4-0 record on the mound.  The senior posted an ERA of 2.61 and struck out 52 batters in 38.0 innings of work.  

Bluffton University's Jacob Latkofsky (Temperance, Mich. / Ida) has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year. Latkofsky, an infielder for the Beavers, had a .338 batting average in league play this spring. The freshman also tallied 24 total bases, 6 RBI, and a .369 slugging percentage. Bluffton finished the season 21-18 overall.

The HCAC has also awarded the 2018 Coach of the Year award to Franklin Head Coach Lance Marshall. Marshall guided the Grizzlies to a 38-3 record and finished the season first in the conference with a 17-1 league record.  He also helped guide Franklin to its second conference tournament title and berth into the NCAA Tournament. It is the fourth HCAC Coach of the Year honor for Marshall at Franklin.
