ALLIANCE, OH – Manchester University's Rick Espeset and junior third baseman Jordan Nieman (Michigan City, Ind./H.S.) have been named All-Mideast Region Coach and Player of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
Espeset has guided the Spartans to a 39-5-1 record, a regular season HCAC crown, a HCAC tournament title, and the school's second NCAA baseball regional championship. Espeset was also named All-Mideast Region Coach of the Year by D3baseball.com earlier this week.
Nieman, a junior third basemen, has hit .339 with 42 runs, 64 hits, 17 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, and 70 RBI. Nieman were named First Team All-HCAC this spring.
Espeset and Nieman will lead the Spartans into the NCAA Division III World Series this weekend against Wis.-Stevens Point Friday afternoon.
Manchester University's Corey Marchant (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger), Bryce Murphy (Ossian, Ind./Norwell), and Kyle Konarski (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) join Nieman as members of the ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-Mideast Region. Bluffton's Kyle Niermann (Napoleon, Ohio/H.S.) also earned a spot on the top squad.
Manchester's Trevor Kimm (Anderson, Ind./H.S.) and Justin Scott (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Snider) and Earlham College's Sam Ward (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) have been named to the ABCA All-Mideast Region Third Team.
The fifteen players that earned ABCA first team recognition will advance to the ABCA All-American ballot which will be selected and announced this week at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.
