GREENWOOD, IN - Bluffton University moved into a tie for third place in the league standings following a 4-0 record in HCAC action last week. The Beavers (17-12, 8-6 HCAC) beat Earlham 13-5 and claimed a series sweep over Mount St. Joseph (6-19, 2-11 HCAC) for the 1st time in team history to move a half game out of second place.
On Tuesday, Bluffton beat Earlham 13-5 following a non-conference loss to Ohio Northern on Monday. Junior catcher Tim Webb (Delaware, Ohio/ Worthington Christian) led the Beavers against the Quakers, going 2-for-5 at the plate with a double and three RBI.
The Beavers ended the week with a three-game sweep over Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati. Senior outfielder Kyle Niermann (Napoleon, Ohio/H.S.) led BU, going 8-for-15 at the plate with six runs scored, a double, a triple, and nine RBI.
On the mound, junior Ben Roeschley (Graymont, Ill./Flanagan) tossed a complete game 9-0 shutout against the Lions Saturday. The junior did not allow a runner past second base until the eighth inning, allowing only five hits with five strikeouts.
Bluffton will welcome rival Defiance on Tuesday for a single contest and close out the week with a weekend series at Transylvania.

No. 14 Manchester (23-3-1, 13-1 HCAC) ran its win streak to 10 straight following a 4-0 week in league play last week. The Spartans beat Defiance 19-2 and swept Hanover (14-13, 7-7 HCAC) over the weekend, outscoring the Panthers 35-9. Junior infielder Jordan Nieman (Michigan City, Ind.) led the Spartans during the week, batting .389 with 11 runs scored, two home runs, one triple, and two doubles.
Rose-Hulman (11-15, 8-5 HCAC) moved into second place in the league standings with a 3-1 record last week. The Engineers beat Anderson on Tuesday and earned a 2-1 series win over Transylvania (14-13, 7-7 HCAC) over the weekend. Freshman pitcher Karson Nixon (Jasper, Ind./H.S.) tossed a complete-game victory against Transylvania Saturday, allowing only three hits with two strikeouts in a 6-1 win.
Anderson (12-15, 8-6 HCAC) bounced back from the Rose-Hulman loss Tuesday to take a 2-1 series win over Earlham (7-22, 3-11 HCAC). Sophomore shortstop Jacob Craft (LaPorte, Ind./H.S.) led the Ravens at the plate during the week, batting .364 with six runs scored, two home runs, a double, and three RBI.
Defiance (14-10, 7-7 HCAC) went 2-2 in league contests last week. The Jackets lost to Manchester Tuesday, but walked away with a 2-1 series win over Franklin (14-15, 6-8 HCAC). Despite losing the series, Franklin's Scott Windler (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic) was red hot at the plate during the week. The junior outfielder finished the week 15-for-28 (.536) at the plate as the Grizzlies went 3-3. FC beat Hanover and split with DePauw in other action last week. Windler hit four doubles and one home run with 10 RBI, 12 runs scored, and eight stolen bases to finish off his powerful week at the plate.
