HANOVER, Ind. - Hanover College alumna Rachel (Slade) Sharpe '13 was named the Head Men's and Women's Track and Field coach announced by Vice President for Athletics Lynn Hall. Sharpe served as an assistant coach for the past five seasons working primarily with the sprints and relays. "I am very excited to have Rachel lead our track and field programs. She brings a great deal of energy and passion to the programs and to the athletic department," said Hall.
While with the Panthers, she helped lead the team to eight Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference titles, including five as an athlete. The 2013 graduate currently holds the Hanover College record in the indoor 4x200-meter relay and outdoor 4x400-meter relay, while also holding top ten marks in eight separate events.
Sharpe garnered All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors on three separate occasions while competing as a Panther.
Twice she has been named a USTFCCCA Great Lakes Assistant Coach of the Year nominee guiding 40 sprinters to All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors during the 2018-19 Indoor and Outdoor Championships. During the 2019 Indoor Championship the men's and women's sprint and relay teams garnered 65 combined points, while posting 76 points during the Outdoor Championship.
"I am beyond excited and grateful for this opportunity to join the Hanover College athletic department," ssaid Sharpe. "Hanover College has a special place in my heart as an alumna and former track and field athlete for the Panthers. I cannot wait to build on the traditions within our track and field program and continue to lead the Panthers to great successes. We have a great team of returning student-athletes and first-year student-athletes coming in this season and I am eager to watch them be successful in the classroom and fiercely compete in their events. I want to thank Vice President for Athletics, Lynn Hall, for this opportunity to lead the Men's and Women's track and field program that our Hanover family and community can be proud of."
Along with serving as an assistant coach, Sharpe also has worked as an admissions counselor for Hanover College.
Sharpe graduated from Hanover College in 2013 with a degree in Health and Movement Studies and as a Business Scholar. She currently is pursuing a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership in Higher Education.
